Crowns

A crown is a porcelain, gold, or silver covering designed to cap the portion of your tooth above the gum line. Crowns restore beauty and function to a broken, fractured, or severely decayed tooth. Dr. Elmore may also suggest topping a tooth that has been treated with root canal therapy with a custom crown for increased strength.

We typically use all-porcelain crowns for front teeth, while back teeth require metal or porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns to withstand biting forces. Your crown will be custom-designed in a dental laboratory to ensure optimal comfort, durability, and alignment.

At your first appointment, Dr. Elmore will take impressions, measurements, and digital photos that so he can create an accurate design. Then, he’ll remove the damaged portion of the tooth and shape the tooth to make room for the crown. A temporary crown will allow you to continue normal activities while your restoration is being created.

At your second appointment, Dr. Elmore will remove the temporary and fit your permanent restoration. He’ll make any necessary adjustments, and then you can begin enjoying your improved smile. The average duration of a crown is around ten years, though they often last patients much longer.
